Be Your Own Monthly Wine Club

The Wine Club program might be good for some, but for those just getting started in wine or who want to learn more about wine, I say start your own wine club. You have much more fun and more delight in tasting the wines that you, and not some so-called expert, have picked. Continue reading

Our Bargain Wine Picks of the Week – June 27, 2011

The suggested retail price on this wine is $28 and that means this price at Costco is huge discount. Costco usually buys a truckload of this wine and at least once during the year has a coupon deal for a few dollars off. When I see that coupon sale I am going to stock up on case and drink if over the next several years. Continue reading

Vine Talk comes to KQED San Francisco

This looks likes a very cool wine program, judging by the previews I have seen. I just realized that this program begins Saturday, June 25. That’s tomorrow! Get your TiVo or other DVR box tuned to record this series that runs through the end of July. It is fun, entertaining and educational.

It is wine coupon time at Costco! This coupon sale will last from now until July 3, 2011. This is just in time for you to stock up for your big 4th of July bash. I ran through my local Costco the other day eyeballing the coupon specials and I think these four our the best bets. Continue reading

Our Bargain Wine Picks – June 20, 2011

I discovered this wine the day after I posted my recommendations for Rosé wines for the summer. I feel this wine is better than any of the ones I’d recommended. Carol Shelton is a small producer of Zinfandel wines and most famous for her Rockpile Zin. As far as I know, this Rosé was her first try and I sure hope she keeps making this wine. It is fantastic. I purchased one bottle and tried it on Friday. Saturday, I wiped out the last of the wine at the San Mateo BevMo store where it sold for $11.19. Continue reading

Bargain Rosé Wine Picks for Summer Fun

Rosé wines are a different breed these days, packed with dry and delightful flavors for summer fun. Rosé wines are a far cry from the old college days when they were sweet and fruit punch in style. Today’s Rosés offer a great change of pace. They are refreshing and comforting on those warm summer days and go great with outdoor food fare. Here is a list of our favorites in the bargain wine category and most of these should be available widely.

Our Bargain Wine Picks of the Week – June 13, 2011

This Pinot Gris from King Estate in Oregon delivers year after year and always seems to get top ratings from all the wine publications. This is a great summer wine and a little more like the Alsatian varietals of Pinot Gris from other domestic producers. Continue reading

Bargain Alert – Grocery Outlet – Evergreen Pinot Gris

Here is my take on the Evergreen Pinot Gris: Lovely, round-mouth feel with balanced fruit and acid. Rich aromas of peach, lime and melon. Very aromatic and flavorful! The flavors match most summer fare for both cold and warm dishes. This is an excellent example of Oregon Pinot Gris and it can stand along the big boys. Continue reading

The BevMo 5 Cent Sale is on! I just poured over the BevMo Website and I am listing the wines are think are very good deals at BevMo for this particular 5 Cent Sale event of June 2011. But before you head out to BevMo you should read my past two articles. There are good deals to be had but for the old cliché “Buying Beware” should be foremost in your mind when you enter the store. TAPAS 2011 Tasting in San Francisco

The Irwin Family Vineyards was clearly the winner for us. This wine really tasted more like the Spanish Tempranillo wines you would find from Spain. Not so big and robust, just the right balance of body and acidity. Definitely a great buy. We enjoyed the Jarvis but hey, at $65 a pop you should like it a lot. The Yorba and Twisted Oak are also very delightful wines. Continue reading
