How does a restaurant figure the price of the wine on their wine list? A restaurant owner once told me that he marks up all his wine $20 over what he pays for the wine. That means a wine he purchased for $15 is $35 on his wine list, a whopping 133% markup. Continue reading

Tapiz Merlot tops our weekly bargain wine picks
Lovely warm flavors of berry and earth with a touch of oak. Medium body with a polished finish and very good acidity which makes it fun to drink glass after glass. Our Bargain Wine Picks of the Week – July 11
A wonderful find at Costco! We opened this at a picnic outing with three other Vintage Tasting club members present and we were thrilled with the taste of this wine. This is a layered fruity Merlot with layers of flavors and touch of leather. A nice finish and wine you can drink with our without food but always better with food. The Wine Advocate gives the wine 92 points, we will go with 89 points. At a $11.99 this is a gem of a find. Continue reading
