Blind Wine Tasting Checklist – Get Organized and Start Your Tasting Group
Vintage Wine Club member Ray did a bang-up job developing a guide, “Checklist for a Successful Wine Tasting.” Just click on the image and you will get a PDF doc to print out. You can’t go wrong planning your tasting with this guide. Continue reading →
Silver Peak 2009 Sonoma Sauvignon Blanc – Top Picks of the Week
This is not your typical New Zealand style S.B with loads of citrus, grapefruit, and gooseberry characters. This one is more reserved with just a slight bit of lemon and lime flavors, and not overloaded with acidity. Perhaps this wine was barrel fermented, because it has a great mouth feel and has a lingering aftertaste. You would be hard pressed to find a similar S.B. under the $20 mark Continue reading →
Best Under $10 Red Wine – Rare Red Wine?
There are a ton of wine loving folks out there searching the shelves for a decent bottle of red wine for under $10. I found two wines that I think just might be the best under $10 wines available. This is not a sale or inventory clearance price; this is the price year round. The wine is Rare Red Wine and currently this non-vintage wine comes in two flavors.

Falernia Syrah – Bargain wine picks of the week – September 19
The Clayhouse Adobe Red is a blend of 8 varietals, but the predominant grape is Zinfandel at 40%. It is a medium bodied wine, but meaty characteristic and a good variety of flavors. You can drink this wine with a number of foods, roast chicken, pizzas, and of course any red meat. Continue reading →

German Riesling Tops Our Vintage Taste Off
The two German Rieslings exploded with aromas of honey and floral characteristics and had a lovely finish. The Poet’s Leap from the Columbia Valley was rich and flavorful in the mouth, with a refreshing and long-lasting finish. Continue reading →

Rodney Strong 2008 Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon – Bargain Pick of the Week – September 5, 2011
This is one of those coupon deals that Costco occasionally has on particular wines. Costco wines have little markup, some say about 14% above cost, so with the added coupon discount, the consumer is getting this wine at a wholesale price. Continue reading →
Our Top Five Bargain Cabernets – CabernetDay
Unfortunately, you are not going to be able to find this wine because of the vintage date, but you can find the current 2008 vintage selling widely and for about that same price Jim had paid for his 2002. Continue reading →

#CabernetDay is Here – September 1, 2011
We are gathering a small group of close friends, each bringing an under-$20 bottle of Cabernet to share with our group. I’m cooking up Thomas Kelller’s rendition of Julia Child’s Boeuf Bourguignon. The sauce is Cabernet based and thus right in tune with the theme of this day. Continue reading →
