Bargain Wines – Trader Joe’s Pontificis
The Robledo Sauvignon Blanc is part of the current 30%-off sale at Safeway Stores in California. This one may not be at all Safeway stores, but I picked this one up at the Burlingame Safeway. The Robledo Family was the first Latino winery in Sonoma County. They own vineyards in Sonoma, Napa, and Lake County where this wine originated. Continue reading →

Amazon starts selling wine – are there any wine bargains?
On Thursday, November 8, Amazon uncorked its much-anticipated online wine shop. You can view it at: amazon.com/wine. I do plenty of shopping on Amazon, especially for books and electronics. They often have the best prices around. I was very anxious to compare the Amazon wine prices with my favorite wine stores and shops where I often find wines at rock-bottom prices. Continue reading →
Howell Mountain Cab top bargain pick of the week
My only knock on this wine is that it is very young and seems to be a bit tight. By that I mean the flavors are there but they fall short in intensity and length. I would put this one down for a couple of years at least. On the Cameron Hughes website, they suggest decanting the wine and letting it sit open even up to one day to bring out the flavors. Anyway you look at this wine, it is young. Most of the Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon out on the wine shop shelves is 2009. Continue reading →
