Whitehall Lane Sauvignon Blanc 2011 and Dry Creek Vineyard Fume Blanc 2011
We tasted the Whitehall Lane Sauvignon Blanc 2011 and the Dry Creek Vineyard Fume Blanc 2011 side-by-side this past week with a few of our friends, and here is what we discovered about these two bargain white wines. First of … Continue reading →
Best White Wine Bargains of 2012
This is a list of the best white wine bargains we tasted in 2012 that are still available on the shelves at wine shops and stores. Unfortunately, we had to leave off some of best because the wines are sold out. It seems pointless to have a wine on the list that is no longer available for consumers at wine shops or other stores. Included in this list is one Rosé wine. Continue reading →

Gundlach Bundschu Gewürztraminer top bargain pick of the week
This one is just the opposite, very well made and a perfect example of this exceptional Alsatian grape. The Gundlach Bundschu Gewürztraminer vineyards are over 150 years old and located in the Mayacamus Mountains. The wine sells at the winery for $22.50 a bottle, but Costco has a supply at Foster City and Redwood City locations for $14.99. 90 Points Continue reading →
Barbera wine – blind tasting results
Few wineries in California make a Barbera wine and most of those are in the Sierra Foothill regions. If you can’t make a wine-country trip to Italy, you can head up to the Gold Country town of Sutter Creek. From Sutter Creek you can make your way to many a winery that make delicious Barbera wines. Continue reading →
Masperla Priorat 2007 is top bargain pick of the week
In the Priorat the predominant grape is the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Grenache seems to be growing in popularity these days and for good reason; the wine is delicious and overall reasonably priced. Some call it a poor man’s Pinot Noir. If you have not yet tried a Spanish Garnacha, and in particular one from one of the hottest wine regions in the world, the Priorat, give the Masperla a try. Wine Sale Costco for Holidays – The winners are
You really don’t see the Cashmere red blend by Cline Cellars in the stores in any size bottle. As far I know, it sells only out of the tasting room or the Cline Cellars Website. I first tasted the Cashmere at a Sonoma Valley restaurant. I liked it so much that on Continue reading →
E-1 Locations – Spanish Red by David Phinney Bargain Wine of the Week
This is a “ready to drink now” wine that is beautifully balanced. No big oak, tannins, or rough edges to this wine. It goes perfectly with many moderately-flavored dishes. Let this one sit open for a while and you’ll be treated to some very nice red fruit characteristics. My favorite character of this wine is how it sits in your mouth. You just want to savor it. I think this wine is a terrific value at this price. Continue reading →
