Bargain Rosé Wine Picks for Summer Fun

Rosé wines are a different breed these days, packed with dry and delightful flavors for summer fun. Rosé wines are a far cry from the old college days when these wines were sweet and fruit-punch tasting. Rosé wines offer a great change of pace; they are always refreshing and comforting on those warm summer days and go great with outdoor food fare. Here is a list of our favorites in the bargain wine category and most of these should be available widely.

Tapiz Malbec Rose – $9.99
Melipal Malbec Rose – $9.99

These two are great examples of some of the Rosé wines coming from Argentina and both are Malbec Rosés. The Tapiz is a little more fruit forward and bold than the Melipal, which is more subtle in character. Both are very good and quite tasty, especially at this price. Both of these wines are available at BevMo.

Cvne Rosado 2010 – $12.99
We tasted this wine at the recent Vibrant Rioja tasting in San Francisco. This is 100% Tempranillo wine with just enough time on the skin to give it its color. This is one terrific wine and it is very refreshing and perfect for the heat. You can pick this wine up at the Spanish Table stores in Berkeley and Mill Valley.

Bonterra Rosé 2009 – $11.99
We have not tried this wine as yet but we purchased a bottle at BevMo to open very soon. We chose this wine because the BevMo Website points out that it got a Double Gold in its class in the latest Chronicle competition. A Double Gold means that all the judges agreed that is was the top wine.

If you love bubbly, these two Rosé sparklers are sure to dazzle you and your guests.

Domain Chandon Rosé $12 – $20
This is always a favorite among the wine writers and, right now through June 20, Safeway has this wine for $11.69 when you buy six bottles. List price for this wine is $22.00.

Allimant Laugner Rosé Nv – $18
This is fantastic and wonderful sparkling wine that is sure to impress. This wine is one of our all-time favorites and here is a previous review of ours on this Cremant from Alsace. This sparkling wine is so, so delicious! The Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant in San Francisco has it at $18. K&L Wines for $19.

Hm, maybe it was the one in particular that I had. Which is a favorite would you recommend? My friend only drinks Rose and would like to give her a bottle, but I’m not too familiar with it.
