Chronicle Wine Competition – A guide for the bargain wine hunter
What do these results mean for the bargain wine hunter? For starters, I think they are more valuable than Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, the Wine Spectator, or similar wine publications. Continue reading →

Mendoza red blend tops our wine picks of the week
This is a terrific deal for this wonderful blend from Mendoza in Argentina. It is 40% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 30% Merlot. I found this wine to be loaded with plum and spice characteristics, and it leaves a beautiful texture in the mouth. It has a great finish and all this for a measly $12.99. Continue reading →
Joel Gott Chardonnay and our “Top Picks of the Week”
When we visited France last fall we combed the wine shops and food market stores (Carrafour stores mostly) looking for wines under 10 Euros. We tried several French wines that price. By and large the best values we found were the wines from the Languedoc region of France. Continue reading →

Our Bargain Wine Picks of the Week – July 11
A wonderful find at Costco! We opened this at a picnic outing with three other Vintage Tasting club members present and we were thrilled with the taste of this wine. This is a layered fruity Merlot with layers of flavors and touch of leather. A nice finish and wine you can drink with our without food but always better with food. The Wine Advocate gives the wine 92 points, we will go with 89 points. At a $11.99 this is a gem of a find. Continue reading →

Our Bargain Wine Picks – July 4, 2011
All are picks this week come from Costco so if you don’t shop at Costco you are out of luck on our choices unless you can find them at another wine shop. If you do I doubt if that store can match the Costco wine prices. Costco’s markup on these wines is ridiculously low. Continue reading →
Costco Wine – It’s Coupon Time
It is wine coupon time at Costco! This coupon sale will last from now until July 3, 2011. This is just in time for you to stock up for your big 4th of July bash. I ran through my local Costco the other day eyeballing the coupon specials and I think these four our the best bets. Continue reading →
Bargain Wine Alert – 6 Luca 2008 Malbec
This wine has a local connection. The owner of this label is Laura Catena, the daughter of the famed Nicolas Catena, considered to be the Robert Mondavi of Argentine wine. Laura Catena lives in San Francisco and is an emergency room doctor and professor at UCSF. Continue reading →
Kirkland Champagne – Who makes it and how good is it?
I contacted Manuel Janisson and asked him about the Costco Champagne. Here is what he had to say about it. Very few of his Grand Cru and Premier Cru grapes went into the blend of this wine. He sourced most of the grapes from other quality vineyards and it is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Munier. Continue reading →
