Mud House Pinot Noir – Bargain Wine Alert 11
Once I heard this from Bruce, I had to give the Pinot a try. I was heading down to Palo Alto so a stop at the Redwood City K&L Wines was an easy call. We tried the Pinot Noir last night, and it is as good at Bruce states. It could easily pass for a $30 Pinot. It has a little mocha character that adds a little extra to the red berry flavors of this wine. Continue reading →

Mendoza red blend tops our wine picks of the week
This is a terrific deal for this wonderful blend from Mendoza in Argentina. It is 40% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 30% Merlot. I found this wine to be loaded with plum and spice characteristics, and it leaves a beautiful texture in the mouth. It has a great finish and all this for a measly $12.99. Continue reading →
Bargain wine picks for the first week of 2012
At the Redwood City K&L Wines, the Deligeroy is a “Staff Pick.” I never really know if this is just a marketing ploy or if the staff really loves the wine. In this case, the staff is right on about this sparkler. It is a little different than most sparkling wines but something quite enjoyable. Continue reading →

Buehler Vineyards – Two red wines top our bargain wine picks of the week.
John Buehler, Jr. and his family are committed to producing excellent wines but keeping prices affordable. Because they have been in the Napa Valley so long, the cost of their operations is not as high as most wineries. Kudos to Buehler Vineyards for keeping their wine prices in check. These two wines could easily sell for more. Continue reading →
Poppy Pinot Noir – A Great Bargain Choice for the Holidays
If you are a fan of Pinot Noir, the Poppy is a must for you to try. Its aroma is typical of Pinot Noir with strawberry and raspberry and this one is loaded with spice flavors. Continue reading →
Chiroulet Cote D’Heux White Wine – 100% Gros Manseng – huh?
This wine comes from the Chiroulet Winery, which is located in a commune by the name of Condom located in southwestern France. It is made from 100% of the Gros Manseng grape, the main white grape of this area. The wine was fermented and aged in wood and thus has a gentle oak aroma and a very nice feel in the mouth. The characteristics of this wine are far different from any white wines we have tasted. Give it a try; we think you will enjoy this wine. If you drink this wine by itself you may not enjoy it as much, because it really is a food wine and matches perfectly with seafood and poultry. Continue reading →

Pennywise Pinot Noir – Tops our picks of the week for October 10
This wine is remarkable at this great price and I consider this wine to be a gem of a discovery. Robert Parker rates this wine at 90 Pts.; I will go with an 88-Pt. rating. The Cost Plus Red Wine sale goes through the end of October and then the wine will return to its regular price of $12.99. Continue reading →

Argentine Bonarda Wine – The Best Wine You’ve Never Heard Of
You are unlikely to find anything labeled Bonarda. Yet Bonarda is the second most widely planted grape in Argentina. So why do we not find much of this wine in the U.S.? I think there are two reasons for that. Continue reading →
