Value Wines of the Week May 13
A very delightful wine for this price! It lacks aroma but has very nice red fruit flavors in the mouth. We noticed that as our meal progressed, the wine opened and became more flavorful. Continue reading →

Languedoc Wine is our pick of the week
Weimax proprietor Gerald Weisel always comes up with some gems in the under $10 category of wine. This Languedoc wine is a blend of 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot and 30% Grenache, all grown organically in the Vin de Pays region of Languedoc. Continue reading →
Masperla Priorat 2007 is top bargain pick of the week
In the Priorat the predominant grape is the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Grenache seems to be growing in popularity these days and for good reason; the wine is delicious and overall reasonably priced. Some call it a poor man’s Pinot Noir. If you have not yet tried a Spanish Garnacha, and in particular one from one of the hottest wine regions in the world, the Priorat, give the Masperla a try. E-1 Locations – Spanish Red by David Phinney Bargain Wine of the Week
This is a “ready to drink now” wine that is beautifully balanced. No big oak, tannins, or rough edges to this wine. It goes perfectly with many moderately-flavored dishes. Let this one sit open for a while and you’ll be treated to some very nice red fruit characteristics. My favorite character of this wine is how it sits in your mouth. You just want to savor it. I think this wine is a terrific value at this price. Continue reading →

Howell Mountain Cab top bargain pick of the week
My only knock on this wine is that it is very young and seems to be a bit tight. By that I mean the flavors are there but they fall short in intensity and length. I would put this one down for a couple of years at least. On the Cameron Hughes website, they suggest decanting the wine and letting it sit open even up to one day to bring out the flavors. Anyway you look at this wine, it is young. Most of the Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon out on the wine shop shelves is 2009. Continue reading →
Oddero Barbera D’Alba and Velo Malbec top picks of the week
Oddero Barbera D’Alba 2009 – $14.99 at KL Wines We had the good fortune of visiting this winery and meeting the owner Giacomo Oddero in October of 2011. The winery is one of the most respected names in the Piemonte … Continue reading →
