No new wines to recommend this week but we purchased two of our favorite wines at the Safeway 30% off sale. The sale ends October 23 so that means you need to act fast. The deals at this sale are good ones and in some cases much better than you can find even at Costco. The one downside is that you must buy six bottles (mix or match) to get the 30% off.
Domain Chandon Brut, Riche, and Rosé – $11.98 when you buy six
Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Chardonnay 2009 – $10.79 when you buy six
This is one of my all-time favorite Chardonnays. I have reviewed it previously on GoodCheapVino and highly recommend this wine. Read the review. The recommended retail price for this wine is $20. Remember the Safeway wine sales ends Tuesday, October 23, 2012.
California Harvest is awesome!

From all reports the California grape harvest is one of the best in years. In terms of yield and quality this harvest is near perfect. Here is what Randy Pitts of Harvest Moon Winery in Sonoma County told me: “It’s been the most inspiring vintage in my dozen years growing and making wine. Between the epic spring and summer weather patterns to the (incredible) amount of full, plump clusters to the long, drawn-out end of the season, Mother Nature served us up a soft ball and most of us hit it out of the park. The expression in the wines is already pronounced as we press off… I can smell the fresh-cracked black pepper permeating from the press… A+.”
We will see the first of these wines on the shelves in 6 to 9 months. These will be the white wines that are fermented and aged in stainless tanks. It will be fun to taste these wines and see how they compare to previous vintages.
