Yesterday I visited Spencer Daniels to buy a few bottles of Montes Folly '04 $22.(RP 93) While that wine is a great deal (retails for $70) most of the other wines in the shop are either over the hill in age or beyond good drinking. They had a floor stack of '05 Cal. rose, which looked washed out, a 10 year old sweet wine in splits which also looked oxidized. They had a number of decent buys, but you need to be aware of what would be a bargain or a loss of $$. Costco is selling '05 Montes for $50 (RP95). They have a good selection of closeouts from TGIC importers, which are excellent South American wines.
If you are driving near Polk and Calif., take a look. Everything there is a closeout, even the Roshambo, which looks like they bought them prior to the winery going belly up. Roshambo inventory will be much less expensive in the months to come.
Good wine hunting Mike
