Napa Valley Chenin Blanc – Top Pick of the Week
We have two wines to recommend from two very old and small California wineries. These are two wines that are far different from the standard and the traditional varietals produced by California winemakers. Both are very exciting and zesty. Why not expand your wine horizons and try something unusual? Continue reading →
Restaurant Wine Buying Tips – VinoServant
It doesn’t matter if you are going to a restaurant with a wine list that is 25 pages long (300+ selections) or a neighborhood spot with a wine list that has 30 selections; you need to be able to explain to the waiter, wine director or sommelier which wines you favor. Continue reading →
Two Valentine Sparkling Wines – Top Bargain Wines of the Week – Feb 13
This is one of the better inexpensive Zinfandel wines I have tasted in some time. It comes from Amador County in the Sierra Foothills. This area has some of the oldest and finest Zinfandel vines in California. Continue reading →
BevMo 5 Cent Sale begins anew for 2012 – Some Recommendations
The sale is currently in full swing as of the date of this post. By and large, it seems to be the same fare offered with a few additions. As usual there are many obscure labels rated by only Wilfred Wong and no other wine critic. Well, maybe I found a couple of wines that had ratings by W.S. or W.E. or somebody else. If you dig deep enough, there are a handful of excellent values. Continue reading →

Mud House Pinot Noir – Bargain Wine Alert 11
Once I heard this from Bruce, I had to give the Pinot a try. I was heading down to Palo Alto so a stop at the Redwood City K&L Wines was an easy call. We tried the Pinot Noir last night, and it is as good at Bruce states. It could easily pass for a $30 Pinot. It has a little mocha character that adds a little extra to the red berry flavors of this wine. Continue reading →

Tuscany Blend 2009 Viticcio Bere tops are picks of the week – January 23
Janelle loves Chardonnay wine that has a balanced oak, creamy feel in the mouth, not too much buttery flavors. Those are hard to come by for under $20. This Artesa Chardonnay will fill the bill for Chardonnay lovers of this style. The bonus in this balanced Chardonnay is the long and lingering finish. Wow! Continue reading →
Chronicle Wine Competition – A guide for the bargain wine hunter
What do these results mean for the bargain wine hunter? For starters, I think they are more valuable than Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, the Wine Spectator, or similar wine publications. Continue reading →
