What do these results mean for the bargain wine hunter? For starters, I think they are more valuable than Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, the Wine Spectator, or similar wine publications. Continue reading

Mendoza red blend tops our wine picks of the week

This is a terrific deal for this wonderful blend from Mendoza in Argentina. It is 40% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 30% Merlot. I found this wine to be loaded with plum and spice characteristics, and it leaves a beautiful texture in the mouth. It has a great finish and all this for a measly $12.99. Continue reading

Bargain Wine Alert #10

This past week some 65 wine judges evaluated 5500 wines at this annual competition. This is by far and away the biggest wine competition around, and you can get some great leads by browsing the list of medal winners. Personally, I just look at the “Best of Class” and the Gold Medal winners. Continue reading

First get into your spice cabinet and smell every spice. When you eat a piece of fruit, smell it and keep it locked into your memory bank. When you see a flower, smell it. If you really want to get serious, buy a smelling kit. Check Amazon for these. Continue reading

Buehler Vineyards – Two red wines top our bargain wine picks of the week.

John Buehler, Jr. and his family are committed to producing excellent wines but keeping prices affordable. Because they have been in the Napa Valley so long, the cost of their operations is not as high as most wineries. Kudos to Buehler Vineyards for keeping their wine prices in check. These two wines could easily sell for more. Continue reading

Tribunal Magnum Red Wine – Top Pick of the Week, November 28

I think this wine has a lot going for it with a medium body and nice crisp fruit. It has lots of cherry flavors and good acid. It will go well with many foods in the light-to-medium category. You should be able to find this wine in many locations or online. 100% Gamay. 86 Points Continue reading

Pennywise Pinot Noir – Tops our picks of the week for October 10

This wine is remarkable at this great price and I consider this wine to be a gem of a discovery. Robert Parker rates this wine at 90 Pts.; I will go with an 88-Pt. rating. The Cost Plus Red Wine sale goes through the end of October and then the wine will return to its regular price of $12.99. Continue reading

Cost Plus World Market answers BevMo with Red Wine Sale

Now of course, Cost Plus WM is not about to lose money on this wine sale. That is why you need to plan ahead and perhaps bring your pen or smart phone to snap photos of the wine, and then do some research on Wine-Searcher.com for comparing wine prices. This might require two visits but that is what it takes to find wine bargains.

The Clayhouse Adobe Red is a blend of 8 varietals, but the predominant grape is Zinfandel at 40%. It is a medium bodied wine, but meaty characteristic and a good variety of flavors. You can drink this wine with a number of foods, roast chicken, pizzas, and of course any red meat. Continue reading
