If you love Zinfandel wine, here is your chance to taste oodles of Zinfandel wines all in the same place. The 21st Annual Zinfandel Festival takes place January 26 to 28, 2012, at the Concourse in San Francisco. We are giving away a pair of tickets to two of the Zinfandel Festival events. We have two tickets for the Epicuria Food & Zin Pairings event on Thursday, January 26, from 6 to 9 pm and two tickets to the ZAP Grand Tasting on Saturday, January 28, from 2 to 5 pm.
At the Epicuria Food & Zin Tasting, you will get a chance to mingle with winemakers and chefs as they pair their Zinfandel wines with epicurean delights. At the Grand tasting on Saturday, 400 different wineries will be pouring their Zinfandel wines. What a bonanza for the bargain wine hunter to seek out and compare Zinfandel wines by winery, region, and price. By the way, use the spit cups provided at the tasting to make sure you are completely able to judge the wines by the end of the day. Complete information on the entire 21st Zinfandel Festival can be found on the ZAP Website.
How to enter
We are going to make it as easy as possible to enter. You must do two things. First, subscribe to our blog feed by entering your email address in the Subscribe Box on the right column on GoodCheapVino.com. If you are currently subscribed, you are good to go with the contest. To complete your entry, tell us what your favorite Zinfandel wine is. Use the comment section at the bottom of this post. Example: I love the Buehler 2010 Napa Valley Zinfandel.
The contest is open from now until Sunday, January 15th. On Monday the 16th, I will enter each entrant’s name in my hat and have a colleague randomly choose the two winners. First place gets to pick either event. Second place gets whichever event is left. How easy is that?

I love the Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin. It’s a great everyday wine and a great gift!
A good wine bargain is the Gnarly Head! Thanks for entering the contest.
Joe
favorite is 2007 Mauritison Rockpile zin
Great choice on the Rockpile! Good Luck!
Joe
Tobin James Dusi Vinyard Zinfandel is fantastic
Dusi Vineyard is the source of some fabulous Zin. Tobin James tasting room is a kick! Good luck in the contest.
Joe
Well i have to 2nd that Mauritson Rockpile Zin.. but i also love the Ghost Trees 04 Zin
A very good selection and definitely in the value category. Good luck!
Joe
Thinking about it.. i have to add Klinker Brick and Nalle Dry Creek to my list! Cin Cin
I am also a big fan of Nalle and practically any wine from the Dry Creek AVA.
Wilson Winery Diane’s Reserve. 2005 and 2006 were both great.
Wilson makes some really great Dry Creek Valley Zins. Good luck!
I love the Preston 2009 Dry Creek Zinfadel…it captures that taste you can only find in Sonoma’s Dry Creek Valley. It’s all organic and has big jammy fruit on the front end, balanced with some nice stringency on the finish. A BIG wine that you can truly savor!
You describe this wine as a professional. I like any of the Preston wines. I once met the man himself. He is a very nice guy. Good luck in the contest.
If you haven’t tried Lapis Luna Romanza Moon 2007 Zinfandel your missing out. Fantastic wine. On my second case.
This one I have not tried. I hope they are pouring this wine at the Grand Tasting on Saturday.
As a big fan of zinfandels, I have been to Preston Winery in Dry Creek and tasted a wide range of their wines. They are all good. Love their L Preston (Rhone blend) and Zins. The winery is small, going more and more organic and very friendly. Nice to sit outside under the trees at a picnic table and enjoy the moment.
I recently enjoyed the 2005 Ottimino “Von Weidlich” Zin from the Russian River Valley.
Russian River Valley Zins are always more spicy than warmer climate Zins. Good call on this wine and good luck in the contest.
Currenlty enjoying the Rosenblum 2007 Harris Kratka Vineyard Zin
Rosenblum makes some very delicious Zinfandel wines. My favorite has been their Rockpile. Good luck in the contest.
I’ve found Hendry Ranch Zins from Napa to be really good, especially with a few years of bottle age. Not only does George Hendry make great Zin, but it’s a great place to visit as well.
We have taken the tour at Hendry three times. George Hendry is one of a kind.
Joe
give me a good white zin. Montevina is prefect example.
You are the first with a non red Zin. Good luck to you. The contest ends on Jan. 15.
I am a fan of the Bogle Old Vines Zin, just off the top of my head.
Thanks for submitting your fav Zin. I like the price on this Zin and you really cannot go wrong with it.
Joe
Favorite is Tobin James Dusi Zin any year
My choice is the STERLING Vintner’s Collection, Zinfandel. $8.88 at Nob Hill.
There is no doubt this is a solid red wine, plenty of body, I would say ‘muscle’. But Oh so smooth!
Have a lady friend who only drinks Chardonnay says, “I don’t like red wines.” She took two sips of my Zinfandel and asked for her own glass. If you’re tired of having to have red and white on the table all the time, Get a bottle of this.
Great tip! I have not tried this wine as yet but will look for it. Good luck.
I recently tried the 2009 Zingaro from Castello Di Amorosa (Napa) and I loved it.
What an interesting name. I have been to the Castle but I don’t recall this wine. Sounds like a good recommendation. Good luck in the contest.
LVC winery made the best Zin’s but the winery is currently closed. Mitchell Katz makes a good Zin, 2008 was great and 2009 is pretty good too.
Thanks for entering and good luck.
I recently had a Castlewood Groove Zin 2001 and it went down good with the Meat Loaf dish I was having.
That sounds like a nicely aged bottle of Zinfandel wine. Good luck in the contest.
My favorite zin (of the moment) is Brown Estate’s 2009 Rosemary’s Block Zinfandel– UHHMAZING! And, I believe it might have even been poured at their ZAP booth during last years Grand Tasting!! YUM!
Brown wines are delicious! They should be the Zap Festival and I will certainly try their Zins. Good luck!
I love the Earthquake Zin at the moment!
That a big and robust Zin from Lodi. Thanks for entering and good luck!
I love Annette’s from Rosenblum
You are the last official entrant in our contest. I will be announcing the two winners shortly.
Joe
We have our two winners! All names of entrants were placed in a “hat” and two names were randomly picked. The winners are Robert L and Michael.
